Dale Hustedt, Avera Holy Family CEO, welcomed approximately 50 guests and thanked supporters for making the project possible. Retired Mission Director Sister Patrick Murphy and current Mission Director Joseph May offered a prayer for the event. Hospital board chair Kathy Preston, emergency department medical director Dr. Jim Creech, and board member Sister Mary Jaeger each spoke at the event. Board members, capital campaign chairs, and representatives from the Avera architecture department grabbed shovels to break the ground on the project. Sandy SHonkwiler, Avera Foundation Director, pointed out the progress already started for the new ER and exam rooms and the inside entrance for the ambulance.

Currently the Avera helicopter will land at Estherville Airport and a crew will meet them, and the ambulance will bring patients to the front entrance and through the corridor to the ER.
