Algona swimmers drop first dual of season

PERRY - The Algona Swim Team came up just short in the opening dual against Perry on Thursday, losing 81-75.

Kaitlyn Pollock earned Algona's lone first place finish, as she won her the 100 butterfly in 1:20.19.

The team had the following second place finishes. The 200-medley relay team of Laura Stowater, Kylie Allen, Pollock, and Cheyanne Fries clocked in at 2:22.48. The 200 freestyle team of Stowater Cayla Steinman, Pollock, and Fries finished in 2:01.39. The 400 freestyle relay team of Pollock, Kellie Schmaus, Abby Wiita, and Stowater finished in 4:47.78.

Individual second-place finishes included Abby Wiita in the 200 freestyle in 2:35.16, Kellie Schmaus in the 200 individual medley in 3:14.99, Fries n the 50 free style in 28.6 seconds, Ellie Salvatore in the 100 butterfly in 1:41.40, Fries in the 100 free style in 1:04.03 and Wiita in the 500 freestyle in 7:05.53.

"The team had a good meet for the first one," said Algona coach Jim Fisher. "There were some good times and times to work on. Plus it gave all the new members the experience of a meet."

The Algona Swim Team returns to Perry on Sept. 4 for a double dual with Perry and Boone.

Editor's note: The Algona Girls Swim Team consists of athletes from Algona, Estherville Lincoln Central and Emmetsburg. Five girls from ELC are on the team-Jessica Wilson, Kaitlyn Pollock, Kellie Schmaus, Madison Valen and Emma Ross.
