Funeral services for Jay Arden Clarke, 73, of Estherville, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville with Pastor David Groleau and Pastor Joel Sadler, co-officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens, Spirit Lake. He passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018 at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.

Jay Arden Clarke, the son of Theodore and Hazel (Glaspie) Clarke, was born October 15, 1944, in Emmetsburg, Iowa.

He received his education in the Emmetsburg schools.

On June 21, 1964, Jay was united in marriage to Beverly Holm in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Following their marriage, they made their home in Spirit Lake for a year. Then they moved to Armstrong, Iowa, where they made their home and raised their family of four girls. Beverly died in 2003. On May 14, 2005, Jay was united in marriage to Judy McQuown-Becker. Jay knew the value of hard work and was employed at Art's Way Manufacturing in Armstrong, Iowa, for 30 years and several years at GKN Industries. The couple made their home in Estherville. Together, Jay sang and Judy played the keyboard at nursing homes and events as "Hymns and Hers." Jay had varied hobbies including, golf, mini-golfing, camping, bowling, collecting baseball cards, taking his family on yearly vacations and playing Solitaire. He also loved watching sports, especially the Dodgers and Twins. Jay was well known for his great sense of humor.

He was an active member of Grandview Baptist Church in Estherville. His deep faith in God was very important to him.

Left to cherish Jay's memory are his wife, Judy of Estherville; four daughters, Lori (Jim) Caster, Shelly Knutson and special friend, Gary Virta, Amy Nath, Ashley (Laramie) Full; step-daughters, Sharon (Jason) Lawinger, Sheila (Austin) Foster; nine grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Joy Schacht, Joan Woodard and friend, Jim Olson, Janice (Jarrett) Lee, James Clarke, Ted R. (Ellie) Clarke II, Bob Clarke and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Jay in death were his first wife, Bev; one grandson, Kaleb; his parents and brother, Jerry Clarke.

Flowers welcome but those preferring a memorial donation may direct them to Grandview Baptist Church Music Ministry in honor of Jay's love for music.
