What’s new at the RWC?

December 13, 2012
By Michael Tidemann - Staff Writer , Estherville Daily News

Estherville Rotarians Thursday had a personal update on what's new at the Regional Wellness Center.

Tony Nath, swimming instructor, and Amanda Fernau, fitness and recreation coordinator, told members about both existing and new programs.

One big addition is the swim team, a collaboration between the City of Estherville Parks and Rec Department, and the RWC.

Nath said 66 youth ages 5-14 are involved in the swim team. Of those, 24 are 8 and under.

Nath said practices are Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings and Monday and Thursday night with team practice Saturday morning.

The program has helped a lot with use of the pool.

"There is quite a bit of usage as compared to after school," Nath said.

The program, which started in November, will end February. Nath said a state meet will be held in Fort Dodge.

Other programs Nath and Fernau mentioned were yoga classes - held twice weekly, and swim lessons which will start late this winter or early spring.
