No. 10 SLP splits with Storm Lake, No. 3 Emmetsburg

SPIRIT LAKE The Spirit Lake Park wrestling team split two Lakes Conference duals at home on Thursday.

The Indians, ranked 10th in Class 2A, defeated Storm Lake 54-29, but lost to Class 1A No. 3 Emmetsburg 53-30.

The match against Storm Lake featured just seven contested matches with the Spirit Lake Park winning four of them.

At 120 pounds, Doug Miner won by fall over Anthony Talamantes; Zach Skopec (138) pinned Juan Morales in 24 seconds; Kenten Murray (145) pinned Cesar Loera in 1:08 and David Trucksess (2:06) pinned Cole Feltner in 2:06.

In other matches, Ben Parks (126) lost by fall in 1:18 to Darren Eads; Justin Jones 9160) lost by fall to Austin Patrick in 36 seconds and Javier Tapia (170) lost by technical fall 15-0, to Noel Buenelos.

Receiving forfeits for the Indians were John O'Neal (106), Gage Roberts (113), Jacob Jenness (182), Brady Mart (195) and Cody Wernimont (220). The Indians forfeited at heavyweight.

The dual with Emmetsburg featured eight contested matches with Spirit Lake winning three of them.

Skopec (138P pinned Chris Van Huevelen in 22 seconds; Murray (145) pinned Caige Elbert in 1:08 and Trucksess (152) pinned Joe Schmidt in 38 seconds.

In other matches, Roberts (106) lost by fall in 3:44 to Dillon Van Oosbree; Parks (126) lost by fall in 3:51 to Nicholas Merwald; Tapia (170) lost by technical fall 17-2 to Nick Schany; Jenness (182) lost by fall in 3:24 to Andrew Wellik and Mart (195) lost by fall in 1:50 to Austin McCartan.

Miner (120) and Jones (160) both received forfeits. The Indians forfeited at 113, 132, 220 and 285 pounds.
