Iowa Lakes coach Nicole Bullock and Laker women notched their most significant victory in the past two years with a 49-46 win over 17th-ranked Des Moines Area Community College on Saturday.
The Lakers' defense kept them in the game until a late 3-pointer by Sunday Duop put them ahead for good, 47-46, with 1:30 remaining. The Bears couldn't come up with another basket missing a 3-pointer and a basket at the buzzer. Meanwhile Iowa Lakes' Ashleigh Dykes hit a pair of free throws for the final margin.
"I'm proud of our defensive effort," said Bullock. "We wanted to limit the touches of Carlee Schuhmacher and we did that."
