Immediate Iowa Past State Deputy Mike Laake was lauded by Estherville Council 2021 of the Knights of Columbus for his service to the state of Iowa.

In 2011 Laake oversaw $2,051,177 in charitable giving, 31,094 members and 1,087,057 hours of volunteer service.

In accepting the award, Laake recognized Clifford Roth, Rollie Jasper and his wife, DJ, for their support. Recalling a 2009 accident, said Laake, "I wouldn't be here as the immediate past state deputy if it were not for my wife, DJ."

Laake reminded Knights of the ongoing battle in the country today to preserve the religious freedom in America envisioned by our ancestors.

"As Catholic men and women we need to stand together so our voices are heard," Laake said. "We need to grow the order. If we don't keep growing, how are we to keep our voices heard."
