ESTHERVILLE - Richard (Rich) Franklin Myers, 85, was born Aug. 1, 1927 in Estherville to Wesley John and Ellamae (Lundgren) Myers. He quietly passed away at home, March 4, 2013 in the presence of his loving wife, Pauline, and family members. He fought a brave fight with cancer for 2 1/2 years. Following cremation, a graveside service will be held at the East Side Cemetery in Estherville at a later date. Rich was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. He will be deeply missed by his wife and family.
Rich was united in marriage to Pauline (Merriott) Kelly July 16, 1951. Due to his position as theatre manager for Central States Theatre Corporation, the family moved several times between 1952 and 1957 to Fort Dodge, Cresco, Mason City and finally returning to Estherville in 1957 where he had accepted a position with the Estherville Daily News as the Advertising Manager until his retirement July 30, 1989.
He loved to hunt and fish and following a full day at work, it was not unlike him to head over to the Spirit Lake area where he could be found throwing a line from his fishing float tube. He and Pauline enjoyed cruising Spirit Lake, the Okoboji's and Kabekona Lake in northern Minnesota in their boat, the Nikki II, named after their youngest granddaughter. In recent years, they drove to the Spirit Lake area seven days a week, enjoying a ride around the lakes and then dining at one of several of their favorite restaurants.
