ARNOLDS PARK - The Iowa Rock 'n Roll Music Association will feature

Alan Morphew of Estherville in this month's Third Saturday of the Month Speaker Series on 1 p.m. Saturday at the Iowa Rock n Roll Museum in Arnolds Park.

The series is free, and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

The talented Morphew will present a program on multi-track recording at the monthly series.

"I first became interested in recording because I was a singer in a rock band and it seemed like a very valuable set of skills for me to build," says Morphew, who grew up in the Estherville area and found his way to California, where he immersed himself in the music scene.

Morphew became involved in managing a world-class recording studio in North Hollywood, Calif., which was host to some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry.

Alan worked in the Los Angeles recording industry for a full two decades, during a time of great change in the industry.

"When I started out, we were recording on analog tape, and things like mp3s and auto-tune had not yet been invented," Morphew said.

Morphew plans to speak about recording in the past, and how it has evolved to today's new digital standards. He will also speak on how changes in technology have affected the recording industry, recording artists and their music.

Morphew notes that he plans to include demonstrations on various aspects of recording, editing and mixing.

In addition to his engineering expertise, Alan Morphew has performed across the U.S. as well as in Europe, won numerous songwriting awards and released three solo CDs. He has released CDs with bands (from Iowa, Los Angeles and Germany), and has appeared on other artists' CD projects, including Neil Young's Living With War in 2006.

He is an owner/partner of Morphew Studios in Estherville which may be found online at
