ELC boys track season opens at Lakes Indoor

STORM LAKE - The Estherville Lincoln Central Boys Track Team saw its first action of the season at the Lakes Conference Indoor Meet at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake on Tuesday.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Derek Nieland, Justin Heinrichs, Adam Reiter and Andres Blanco paced the Midgets with a third-place finish in 1 minute 39.9 seconds.

"I'm very happy with their performance," said ELC coach Dick Barrett.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Rodrick Fuller, Blake Gjerde, Joe Heinrichs and Evan Hansen finished fourth in 9:07.17.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Alec Wycoff, Michael McCauley, Avery Hansen and Justin Heinrichs finished fifth in 38.09 seconds.

In the field events, Chase Bonner placed sixth with a throw of 43 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Barrett said the throw was 5 feet further than Bonner threw at last year's indoor meet.

Other ELC shot put results include Randy Leon throwing 32 feet, 6 inches, John Leon throwing 26 feet and Brendan Huntley throwing 21 feet, 6 inches.

Adam Reiter placed eighth in the 55-meter dash in 7.14 seconds. Also Blanco finished in 7.37 seconds, Dan Christensen in 7.38 seconds and Martin Christensen in 7.9 seconds.

In the 800-meter run, Joel McCoy finished in 2:30 and Kelly Clabaugh in 2:41.

In the 550-meter high hurdles, McCauley finished in 9.17 seconds and Matt Burrell in 9.28 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, Kyle DeVary finished in 26.4 seconds, Martin Christensen in 26.8 seconds, Avery Hansen in 27 seconds, Zach Humble in 28.5 seconds, Alex Miller in 29.1 seconds and Devin Ring in 32.7 seconds.

In the 1600-meter run, Joe Heinrichs finished in 5 minutes, Fuller in 6:10, Lee Christensen in 5:06.9, Gjerde in 5:13, Nic Peters in 5.29 and Tristan Fales in 6 minutes.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Wycoff, Justin Heinrichs, Nieland and Burrell clocked in at 3:51.6.

Dan Christensen leapt 17 feet, 3 inches in the long jump.

ELC is scheduled to host a triangular meet next Tuesday, weather permitting.
