After losing their first five games of the season, the Iowa Lakes softball team finished up its spring break trip with five wins.
The winning began on Wednesday, march 20 as the Lakers defeated Riverland Community College (Minn.), 8-4.
Alex Frausto was the winning pitcher. She gave up three earned runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts.
Morgan Vlasman led the Lakers at the plate as she scored four of the six Laker runs. She was 2-3 at the plate with two stolen bases. Also, Amber Holmgren went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Rachel Hinners was 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
The Lakers then lost 1-0 to Highland Community College.
Jordyn Derflinger gave up the only run of the game on four hits. She had three strikeouts.
At the plate, Jessica Abrahamson was 1-2 and Morgan Zollner was 1-3.
The Lakers continued play against Bethany College Junior Varsity, an 11-3 Laker win. The Lakers then defeated Indiana Tech Junior Varsity 18-2.
Frausto earned the wins in both games. She gave up a total of four earned runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.
The Lakers combined for 32 hits in the game including 11 doubles and four triples.
"I was very pleased with how we came back to compete on day 4 against a team that beat us earlier in the week," said Iowa Lakes coach Jess VanLoy. "It was nice to see our bats come alive the last two games."
The Lakers ended the trip with a pair of shut outs against Indiana Tech Junior Varsity by scores of 12-0 and 14-0.
The Lakers pounded out 13 hits in the first game with Zollner going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Kristi Larson was 2-2 with two RBIs and Rachel Hinners was 2-3 with an RBI, Tarah Hunt and Jessica Abrahamson each had two RBIs.
Derflinger earned the win on the mound. She gave up just one hit and faced 15 batters in five innings of work.
The Lakers again needed just five innings in the second game of the doubleheader, a 14-0 Laker win.
Derflinger gave up three hits and struck out two batters in getting the victory.
Abrahamson was 2-4 with five RBIs. Hinners was 2-3 with two RBIs, Sierra Gudvangen was 2-2 with an RBI. Frausto and Amber Grengs each had two RBIs.
Iowa Lakes (5-5 overall) was scheduled to play a doubleheader with Marshalltown on Sunday after a doubleheader with Kirkwood was postponed on Saturday.
The schedule has Iowa Lakes traveling to Mason City on Wednesday with home doubleheaders against DMACC on Saturday and Southwestern on Sunday.
