North Union runners open outdoor season at CCE Invitational

SPENCER - The North Union girls and boys track teams saw their first outdoor meet at the Maverick Relays in Spencer on Friday.

The Warrior girls tied for second overall while the boys finished third.

"It was a cold, windy day, but we saw both the boys and girls with some outstanding times," said North Union coach Loren Looft. "Due to the conditions I'm happy with how the kids ran. We haven't run outside a lot and it was good to run against some other teams."

The Warriors had five first place finishes for the girls.

MaKayla Hardman won the 100-meter dash in 13.53 seconds and Allie Ingalls was first in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.2 seconds.

Also individually, Dena Looft won the discus with a throw of 105 feet, 5 inches.

North Union's sprint medley and 4x100-meter relay teams both won in times of 2:06.68 and 55.70 seconds, respectively. Both teams consisted of Ingalls, Hardman, Sara Johnson and Jadyn Kissner.

In other events, the 4x800-meter relay team of Paige Taylor Kristian Peterson, Sarah Rolling and Alexis Laubenthal placed fourth in 13:15.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Ingalls, Emma Engelby, Emily Hagebock and Ashley Olson placed second in 1:21.

Johnson took second in the 400-meter dash in 1:07.16.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Kissner, Maaike Weiser, Hagebock and Rebecca Boyer placed third in 2:07.06.

Hardman placed second in the 200-meter dash in 28.4 seconds and Sarah Rolling was second in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:23.15.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Peterson, Engelby, Laubenthal and Johnson placed fourth in 5:17.

Lexy Johnson placed third in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 6 inches. Hagebock placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet.

Sara Johnson placed in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches.

North Union boys' results

Brian Becker gave North Union two first-place finishes. He won the 3200-meter run in 11:28 and the 1600-meter run in 5:01.42.

Jake Adams took first in the 800-meter run in 2:15 and Braden Ortmann won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches. Aric Runge also leaped 5 feet, 4 inches and placed third in the high jump.

Other results are as follows.

The 4x800-meter relay team of Joey Stauffer, Lucas Hardman, Shaun Cook and Josh Braddock placed fourth in 10:48.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Aric Runge, Chandler Meyer, Cory Tigges and Wyatt Runksmeier placed fourth in 1:22.

Matt Adams took second in the 400-meter dash in 56.8 seconds while Jake Adams placed third in 56.9 seconds.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Jacob Braddock, Ty Anderson, Meyer and Stauffer took third in 1:4.4.

Jake Adams placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in 25.5 seconds.

The medley relay team of Kevin Nemmers, Braden Ortmann, Cook and Becker placed second in 4:16.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Jacob Braddock, Ortmann, Anderson and Marshall Klingenberg placed third in 49.2 seconds.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Stauffer, Meyer, Hardman and Becker took fourth in 4:02.41.

In the field events, Klingenberg took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 4 inches.

Jake Adams placed third in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 1 inches.

The North Union teams are scheduled to travel to Spirit Lake on Tuesday.
