ARMSTRONG?- The Armstrong-Ringsted Board of Education proposed a wage freeze in its initial offer to the Armstrong-Ringsted Education Association for the 2013-14 contract year Wednesday, April 3.
Under wages and salaries, according to the language in the district's offer, "The provisions of this Article regarding vertical and horizontal salary schedule advancement shall not be applicable for current employees retained in employment for 2013-14 despite any additional language in the contract to the contrary."
Under the salary schedule section: "This District proposes to retain its current salary schedule for 2013-14 and to bar all vertical or horizontal advancement as its initial bargaining position. (However, the District intends to continue to bargain regarding the possibility of a 'single salary schedule' in order to try to met the concept of 'joint employment' for 2013-14.)
The current salary base is $26,230. With $4,767 in TSS money, the total for Step 1 teachers is $30,997. The district also pays $549 a month toward medical insurance.
In its initial proposal Wednesday, March 20, the Armstrong-Ringsted Education Association presented an initial contract proposal calling for a $31,853 base.
The AREA proposal includes six lanes and 16 steps with a 3 percent increase between lanes and steps.
AREA is also requesting a $40 increase in the employer contribution to health insurance, from $549 to $589.
