While weather has slowed planned improvement at Thoreson Park this spring, work continues on new dugouts on ball fields 2 and 3.
The concrete foundation has been laid for the Thoreson 3 field dugouts with much of the concrete for the Thoreson 2 dugouts soon to follow.
Estherville city administrator Penny Clayton said Tuesday that weather permitting, the new 8-by-24-foot dugouts should be ready for the start of the Little League season at the end of May.
Already a cap has been put on the fences. The Parks and Recreation Department also plans to plant trees between Thoreson Field 1 and Field 2. New batting cage nets also will be installed this year.
The city will begin installing ADA accessible-sidewalk this year as well so those with disabilities can more easily get to the fields.
Eventually, the Parks and Recreation Department plans a trail all around Thoreson Park.
Concerning new dugouts for Thoreson Field 1, they will be replaced as time and money allows.
