The Rumbles a must-see

June 27, 2013
Estherville Daily News

This weekend The Rumbles, a legendary Midwest rock band, will present a free concert just east of the Iowa Lakes Community College main building in Estherville.

The concert is sponsored by the Estherville Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Iowa Lakes Community College.

A lot of Boomers throughout the region danced to The Rumbles in high-school homecomings and proms, something that gives the band a great following in the area.

This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a free concert and it's also a great way to get together with friends you probably haven't seen for a while.

Black Knights Car Club members will have their classic cars on display, something that should be very fitting for The Rumbles.

The grounds open at 7 p.m. and the beer garden opens at 7:30. The band will perform from 8:30 to midnight.

Congratulations

to North Union

Voters in Armstrong-Ringsted and Sentral school districts should get a hand for their overwhelming support of the school merger election Tuesday, with an average of 86 percent of voters in the two districts giving their approval.

The merger is one that has had a great deal of thought and planning by some very intelligent people. They have not left a stone unturned, looking at the negatives as well as the positives. Along the way, the negatives have been few.

The new North Union School District, which will become official July 1, 2014, will be stronger because of the merger, without compromising the integrity of either district. Just one example of the strength of the two districts is the number of state football championships Armstrong-Ringsted and Sentral have won over the past several years. Sentral took back-to-back state football championships in 2002-03 and Armstrong-Ringsted did the same in 2009-10.

After consolidation, the new North Union

School District will whole-grade share with North Kossuth, with an eye toward another consolidation among the three districts.
