ELC players earn Lakes honors

Burrell named to first team

Five Estherville Lincoln Central players earned the All-Lakes Conference honors following the completion of the 2013 season.

As a team, the Midgets finished tied for fifth with Spencer in league play as both finished 6-8.

ELC shortstop Matt Burrell received a unanimous selection to the first team as an infielder while pitcher Tyler Swanson and outfielder Adam Reiter both earned second team honors.

Earning honorable mention were catcher Corey Reeves and Billy Snyder as a utility player.

In conference play, Burrell was one of the leaders at the plate. The senior shortstop batted .385 in league play with 15 hits including five doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs. With eight walks, his on-base percentage was .489.

Swanson, another senior, finished with a 4-3 record in league play on the mound. He pitched 47 1/3 innings with 34 strikeouts to 19 walks. His ERA was 3.25.

Reiter, also a senior, batted .298 in league play with 14 hits and four RBIs along with four sacrifices. He also stole six bases.

Reeves, a junior, is valued for his play behind the plate. He threw out 11 runners trying to steal an extra base. At the plate, he batted 2.42 with eight hits and 11 RBIs.

Snyder, a junior, batted .255 in league play with 12 hits including three doubles and six RBIs. As the team's leadoff batter, he had an on-base percentage of .327. As a pitcher, Snyder was 2-2 in conference play with a 3.03 ERA. He had 23 strikeouts compared to 20 walks.
