Titans drop season finale

LAURENS - The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Volleyball Team wrapped up the regular season with a 3-0 loss to Laurens-Marathon on Monday.

The Chargers won by scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 25-18.

Marley Bakken led the attack with five kills while Morgan McGrauth had four and Lauren Flaharty and Sheila Larson each had two.

Kelley Harris had 15 set assists.

The Titans had eight ace serves led by Bakken with three and Flaharty with two while Harris, Paige Hoffman and Grace Skattebo each had one.

Hannah Groshens finished with five digs and Flaharty had three blocks.

GTRA finishes the season with an 8-21 record overall and 1-4 in Cornbelt Conference play. The Titans travel to Everly on Tuesday for a Class 1A Regional game against Clay Central-Everly (11-14).

Indians sweep Tornadoes

STORM LAKE - The Spirit Lake volleyball team swept Storm Lake to move a game above .500 overall on the season at 12-11. The Indians defeated the Tornadoes 25-8, 25-29, 25-17 on Tuesday.

Joie Veldman finished with 13 of the team's 45 kills. Carly Ites and Bailey Loveall each had eight, Macy Smith had seven and Kayla Herrig had five.

Kaela Delperdang had 23 set assists while Sami Ashland had 14. Spirit Lake had six ace serves with two by Loveall and two by Bailee Newman. Ashland was 16-of-16 with one ace.

Defensively, Newman had seven digs, Loveall had six and Kelsey Delperdang had five. Also, Loveall and Macy Smith each had three blocks while Herrig and Ites each had two.

Spirit Lake (4-2 in the Lakes Conference) is at the Storm Lake Tournament today. The Indians end the regular season at LeMars on Thursday.
