Thumbs up to the Estherville Area Ministerial Association volunteers who made a happy holiday for people at the Community Christmas Project at the Duhigg Center Tuesday. This is a wonderful project that has served an average of 1,000 people over the years. It's yet another example of the generosity of Estherville.
Thumbs up to workers - a lot of them volunteer - in making progress on the new Emmet County Animal Shelter on South Seventh Avenue despite the cold weather. Workers have taken advantage of the few warm days we've had and enclosed the building so work can not start on the interior. This is a remarkable accomplishment of a project done with donations and volunteers.
Thumbs up on a wonderful Tuba Christmas. The kids enjoyed meeting Santa and telling him their Christmas wishes and of course the music was as wonderful as always. What a way to bring in the Christmas spirit.
Thumbs up to all the Estherville merchants who have gone all out to making it worthwhile to shop Estherville first this Christmas. We are indeed lucky to have so many retailers who are truly competitive with the big box stores in larger communities.
Thumbs up to the Many Voices Choir which is holding a Christmas concert at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. If you haven't had a chance to hear this wonderful choir perform, you owe it to yourself to hear them. If you've heard them before, you'll probably be there. There is no admission, but a freewill offering will be accepted.
Thumbs up to the Graettinger Business Club as it holds its Soup Appreciation and Kids' Carnival 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 301 N. Cameron Ave. in Graettinger.
Thumbs up to Estherville Lincoln High School band and choir on his Christmas concert 2 p.m. Sunday at Roosevelt Auditorium.
Thumbs up to ELC first and second graders on their Christmas concert starting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Roosevelt Auditorium on North Sixth Street. The first graders will perform at 6:30 followed by the second graders at 7:30.
